A casi tres horas de Brisbane puedes encontrar el Parque Nacional Girraween en el que las formaciones rocosas y enormes afloramientos de granito, demuestran que la madre Naturaleza es una de las mejores artistas del mundo. El paisaje de este parque ilustra rocas equilibradas, arroyos claros y espectaculares flores silvestres en primavera.

Girraween National Park is a wonderful place to explore incredible rock formations, wild flowers and some natural landscape to take your breath away. I went at the end of the spring season and it’s perfect if you like macro photography, the spring flowers of this park are incredible and if you get up early in the morning and get those first rays of light you can capture beautiful frosted leaves and flowers.
El viento, el agua y el hielo fueron elementos creadores de este parque que da la bienvenida a turistas y locales a explorar sus senderos. Entre sus actividades más relevantes está el de la caminata de Wyberba, subir a sus pirámides para disfrutar de una vista imponente y caminar alrededor de sus pozos de agua. Y no solo eso, también tiene áreas para acampar en Castle Rock o Bald Rock Creek, el segundo monolito más grande del continente después de Uluru y que curiosamente se encuentra en el borde entre Queensland y New South Wales.
Wind, water and ice were Mother nature’s elements of choice to create this park that welcomes tourists and locals to explore its trails. Among its most relevant activities is the Wyberba walk, hiking till its pyramids to enjoy an impressive view and also walking around its water holes. Not only that, it also has camping areas at Castle Rock or Bald Rock Creek, the second largest monolith on the continent after Uluru. Curiously, this last one is located on the border between Queensland and New South Wales.
Las flores silvestres en primavera son más que agradables para la vista. También puedes observar los reflejos cambiantes en las piscinas de rocas y encontrarte vida silvestre como loros turquesa, aves del bosque y si tienes suerte, puedes escuchar los pájaros lira imitando el canto de otros pájaros.
Wildflowers in spring are more than pleasing to the eye. You can also observe the changing reflections in the rock pools and meet wildlife such as turquoise parrots, forest birds and if you are lucky you can hear the lyre birds imitating the song of other birds.

Si tienes suficiente tiempo...
Si tienes suficiente tiempo y eres de los que no les importa los tantos kilómetros, toma la caminata a Castle Rock que son alrededor de 15 km de ida y vuelta, sigue a través The Sphinx y Turtle Rock, luego continúa hacia Mount Norman. Esta caminata promete vistas de las diferentes formaciones rocosas.
Y si aún te quedan energías para caminar un par de kilómetros más, puedes continuar hasta Mount Norman, el punto más alto del parque nacional.
If you have enough time...
If you have time on your side and you are one of those who don’t mind walking the extra kilometres, take the 15 km return walk to Castle Rock, hiking through The Sphinx and Turtle Rock, then on to Mount Norman. This walk promises views of the Granite Belt or rock formations.
If you still have the energy to walk a few more kilometres, you can continue onwards Mount Norman, the highest point in the National Park.
Si estás corto de tiempo…
Si por el contrario no quieres extenderte kilómetros caminando, la ruta de ida y vuelta más famosa en este parque es The Pyramid y tiene 3,6 km de caminata. Esta atraviesa todo el parque hasta su atracción más popular llamada, Balancing Rock.
Llegar hasta este lugar puede ser todo un reto, así que no olvides llevar los zapatos apropiados. En caso de que esté lloviendo o nevando, la escalada a este lugar no es muy recomendada.
If you’re short of time…
If, on the other hand, you don’t want to walk for hours, the most-famous return trip in this National Park is the Pyramid walk and it has 3.6 km. This return journey takes you through the entire Park where you will find its most popular attraction called, Balancing Rock.
Getting to this place can be a challenge, so don’t forget to bring the appropriate shoes. In case it’s raining or snowing, climbing to reach the top of a natural pyramid isn’t highly recommended.
Flora y Fauna
Girraweren se traduce como “Lugar de flores” en el idioma aborigen local y el mejor momento para visitar a un mundo de flores es en Primavera.
Hay muchos animales que llaman hogar a este enorme parque, sin embargo es muy común ver Wallabies y Possums.
Siempre es importante consultar con los centros de atención a los parques ya que las diferentes condiciones climáticas pueden atraer a otro tipo de amigas de las fauna.
Flora & Fauna
Girraween translates to “Place of flowers” speaking in the local indigenuos language and the best time to see a world of flowers is in Spring.
There are many animals that call this huge park home. However, it’s very common to see wallabies and Possums.
Please Note, it is important to check with the park services centres as different weather conditions can attract other types of wildlife fauna-friends.

Como la mayoría de lugares al sur de Queensland, Girraween también experimenta cuatro estaciones.
En el invierno, te puedes encontrar con noches cuyas temperaturas bajan hasta -8°C, tanto así que sus famosas rock pools pueden llegar a congelarse, y formarse capas de nieve sobre las rocas.
Aunque es posible visitar este lugar en cualquier época del año. El invierno se ha convertido en de las temporadas más populares para visitar este parque ya que el clima es templado, lo que facilita las caminatas más largas. Probablemente también podrás ver un cielo muy azul
Local Tips
Like most places in South Queensland, Girraween also experiences four seasons.
In winter, you can find nights reaching temperatures as low as -8 ° C, so much that its famous rock pools can freeze, and layers of snow can form on the rocks.
Although it is possible to visit this place at any time of the year, winter has become one of the most popular seasons to visit this park as the climate is mild, which makes longer walks easier. You will likely walk under a very blue sky as well.
Donde Hospedarse en el Parque Nacional Girraween
Acampar es la forma más fácil de hospedarse en este lugar. Otros parques alrededor también tienen campamentos disponibles.
Si acampar no es tu estilo y prefieres dormir más cómodamente, existen unas cabañas con paredes de madera y tinas al aire libre. El estilo de las cabañas hacen de este un lugar romántico aun estando ubicado en el parque nacional rodeado de naturaleza
Antes de visitar el parque revisa como va estar el estado del clima, si hay alerta de fuertes lluvias o incendios, considera tu visita.

Camping is the easiest way to stay here. Other parks around have campsites available as well.
Before travelling to Girraween, check the weather conditions for the days you intend to stay. If there are reports of storms, heavy rain, or bushfires, consider your visit.
